Community

It is our commitment to operate in a very close partnership with the entire regional Bourke community. As part of our responsibility to the local community, it is our intention to play our part in enriching the community through our investment in the local economy and in its’ people.  Our priority, wherever possible, will be to employ local people including indigenous Australians, and to support local businesses.

Food Safety

The importance of food safety cannot be over-stated.  It is our number one priority to ensure all products are produced to the highest possible food safety standards. Our food safety procedures and standards are documented in our Australian Government Approved Arrangements and are independently audited and certified. Our food safety systems ensure our product is continually tested to guarantee it meets statutory requirements. Our commitment to all of our customers is to supply food that is safe and wholesome.


Animal Welfare

Darling River Meats mandate is for all livestock under its control to be treated in a respectful and humane manner. No exceptions!

With the Bourke facility being recently constructed on a green-field site, we have been able to adopt the latest concepts, innovations and technology to assist in optimal animal handling. The livestock receival and handling yards were designed by animal handling specialists to ensure the best possible animal welfare outcomes.

Darling River Meats operate under the Australian Livestock Processing Industry Animal Welfare Certification System (AAWCS). This is an independently certified animal welfare program that ensures all livestock under control of the company are handled in accordance with best practice animal welfare guidelines.

Animal welfare outcomes were a major consideration in choosing the location to build the new plant. The decision was made to build the plant in the region with the highest goat density concentration in Australia, thereby significantly reducing livestock trucking distances and times to the plant, resulting in optimal animal welfare outcomes.
